Havana wins 7th grade county tourney
The Havana Lady Ducks received 13 points apiece from Elly Bonnett and Bella Fisher in defeating the South Fulton Lady Rebels 33-26 to win the Fulton County 7th Grade Tournament Wednesday night. Havana led at each of the stops which included an 11-5 lead after the first quarter and a 27-17 advantage at the end of three quarters.
Fisher proved to be the biggest thorn in South Fulton's side as she controlled the paint in the opening quarter, scoring nine points. Meanwhile, the Lady Rebels mustered three free throws from Taylor Churchill and a field goal from Maggie Koster in an effort to stay in the game.
The second quarter played out with both teams scored six points apiece as both teams struggled from the field. The Lady Rebels were a cold 2 of 14 while the Lady Ducks sank just 3 of their 14 field goal attempts in the quarter.
Trailing 17-11 at the half, the Lady Rebels scored the first four points in the third quarter on two field goals from Sydney Williams. However, Bonnett took some of the pressure off the Lady Ducks when she got nothing but net on a 3-point at the 3:20 mark in the quarter. Later, the eventual winners' lead grew to 27-17 on field goals from Breannia Hughes and Bonnett
Havana's biggest lead was 31-19 with 4:41 left in the game when Echo Pringle scored from within the paint. The Lady Rebels closed out the game on a 7-2 run, but but couldn't overcome their double-digit deficit from earlier in the quarter.
Besides the points from Bonnett and Fisher, Pringle had five points. Hughes scored the two points.
Churchill scored seven points for South Fulton. Maggie Lascelles and Williams finished with six points apiece. Maddie McCormick, Koster, and Lexi Danner chipped in with two points apiece. Ashlin Waldo added one point.
